Looked like these guys were just leaning on each other while taking a nap. But they were not that sound asleep. All of a sudden, mom flew in, as you'll see on the next shot, and delivered a lizard. Made quite a few shots of that, but there was so much movement, that nothing seemed to come out sharp and focused. As usual, needed that extra shutter speed, but just didn't have it, in these conditions. :-(
I love your owl shots. Your comment regarding light conditions prompted me to look at your EXIF info. If you aren't cropping these photos a lot, then I wouldn't be afraid of pushing your ISO. I rarely shoot at ISO 200. I have my D850 set to aperture priority, auto ISO with the range between 200 and 6500, shutter speed set at 1/3200s and usually using f5.6 through f9 or higher if I have the light. Granted you may not be able to go as high with your D7100 but you should be able to get something higher than ISO 200. In auto ISO when the light is insufficient, the camera goes to your highest ISO you set and the camera shutter speed drops...anyway, I think it's something you can play with.
@mjalkotzy thanks Martin, I'll try that and see how it goes. I've done auto iso a few times, and just never have liked it. Too much noise, but dont think I had really adjusted the shutter speed like that. I'll see how it goes.
