@milaniet oh they are a critical key component to a healthy ecosystem because they clean up all decomposing matter and prevent so much disease in the process. ugly yes, but mother nature knows what she is doing :)

Dressed in black as they are, the sun probably gets rather intense. And they may have just finished a hot meal...something dead that had been baking in the sun.
