Went down for my usual sunset tonight, with other plans in mind. I found out that one of the guys that comes down there a lot, had a Sigma 150-600 lens. He had offered to let me try it out while we would be on the pier. And just so happened, the eagles were on one of the piers way out in the distance. He even brought the large tripod, so I was all set for trying out the lens. This pier was quite a ways away from where we were shooting and there were several people on the pier, so not sure if the vibration came into play or what. I tried some other closer shots and seems like they were somewhat better. Just not sure if it is the operator or the equipment, but wasn't real happy with this first attempt with this big lens.
This is a great long distance capture. I have that lens (the "C" version, not the "Sport" version), it is really heavy and long, so vibrations do come into play. I've found with that lens that you have to turn off OS once you put it on the tripod and either shoot with a remote trigger or with the timer so that any vibrations dampen down. Or hand-hold it, but that gets old pretty quick.
