Dr Roberts Waterhole walk 3

These incredible banksias are only found in this area, but they are prolific here. They have amazing black loops.... This one is still damp from the early morning mist.
great detail. it look like iron wire.

Wish i had a park like that nearby :) It's another great picture you made... And like Dione above it's the same for me, never seen or heard of this one before, beautiful.

It looks like my attempts at knitting - full of loops and holes! What a fabulous plant.

I've never seen these -- fascinating plant! And a good closeup shot.

What fabulous intricate flowers. Have you ever seen one of Dr Roberts lyrebirds there Rob? I think I am in love with them :)

Oh woweee, I recognised a banksia, of course, but I've never seen one like this with the black loops. Love the little droplets (tautology?), they make the flower glitter.

Amazing flowers. Great photo.

@caterina Thanks Caterina - they look like that in real life too - the black strands are very stiff!

@sarahlth Hi Sarah - they are really quite different. :)

@sangwann Hi Dione - thanks for your interest - they are quite something!

@madeinnl Hi Ko - we are very lucky to have Girraween - it has such variety. We just love it. :)

@casablanca Haaa - the loops eventually all fall apart!! and open up!! and just turn into bits and pieces. Surely not like your knitting??? Seriously though - they are fabulous - I took dozens of photos! :)

@taffy Thanks Taffy - we believe they only grow in that small region - they would be a great plant to cultivate - so special.

@suzanne234 Oh Suzanne - we've seen a Lyrebird there - but even better - we've listened to one in full song! They are the world's best mimics - so when they try to impress the ladies they go through the full repertoire - every imaginable bird song is reproduced and then they add assorted items like the noise of chainsaws, or bells, or whistles or telephones . We heard him singing for about 20minutes - along this very trail - he just filled the forest with noise. Unforgettable!! You truly would fall in love with them. :)

@golftragic Isn't tautology a great word!! This is the first time I've seen these with the droplets - it just made them better than ever! :)

@dkbarnett Thanks Delwyn - they are very special.

@robz I've seen a few videos on you tube of it's song, I was absolutely enthralled, what a treat to actually hear one in the wild. One of the clips even had a rather.... err shall we say friendly, couple of tourists but I'm not sure that was real!!
June 14th, 2018
@suzanne234 LOL - and funnily enough it could be true - they copy anything - so clever! :)

A very interesting close up!
