This room is incredible! The wooden floors were made from the timbers of one giant Oak tree. The windows were specially made with panels of leadlighting which are offset at angles to each other - making light reflect and bounce around the room. The ceiling has white rose motifs - historically important as secrets shared under the white rose are safe secrets. Hence the legal term "sub rosa"! But to me the most interesting aspect is that this room is still a family room. The same family still owns the house (after 800years) and they still live there. The two small children regularly ride their tricycles up and down this gallery! The medieval furniture is still used!
I am enjoying your trip through your photos! The information about this room is interesting. You have got a nice balance of light and shade which has given this atmosphere.
@rosie00 Thank you Lesley - that's a lovely comment - I do appreciate it. It's always a bit of a worry that travel shots will be totally boring to other people. Thanks again. Cheers Rob
@suzanne234 We enjoyed it so much Suzanne - it is well worth a visit. Am I correct in thinking it's not that far from where you are? It's near Bakewell.
@jgpittenger Hi Jane - thanks for your awesome feedback - I'm really trying to not have to do anything to most of these photos so I'm so pleased that you found this one a success! Mind you - it was a fabulous setting to start with...
