Haddon Hall - dating from the Norman Invasion

Haddon Hall dates back to the Norman Invasion. There is a chapel in the far right hand corner which was constructed at the end o the 1100s. It has been in the same family for approx 800 years! It was left vacant by them for several hundred years - but was well maintained - and hence avoided "modernisation" in some of the more ugly ways of those centuries. It still has its medieval furniture and many original, huge, fabulous wall tapestries. It is fascinating to wander through.
Are you popping into Chatsworth?? Look for the marble vestel virgin, she's stunning!!

@casablanca Hi Casablanca - we just loved this! It is so authentic - and the history is amazing - fancy being owned by the same family for 800years! And they still live there. I think you would really like it. :)

How wonderful to be able to spend time somewhere that old. I find it so hard to get my head round that kind of 'old'.
