In the days of Viking raids many valuables were buried in an attempt to prevent their seizure by raiding groups. Sometimes, due to a variety of reasons, these caches were not recovered and have lain buried for centuries. This is one such treasure trove.
we were stopped recently on an photo outing by an angry farmer who thought our tripods were metal detectors!! This must have been soooooooooooooo exciting for the detectorist who found this!
@golftragic The museum was amazing Marnie - they had so many of these hordes plus a whole range of Roman treasures - and then we ran out of time - still only on the bottom floor of 5 floors!....
