Kirkenes is way above the Arctic Circle - in fact it is only 325km from the North Pole ( according to Google - that does seem very close!) This is where many of the Hurtigruten Cruises depart from. The Hurtigruten Line was founded in 1893 to improve communications along the long Norwegian Coast. Our ship was quite small (about 120 passengers most of the time) and quite old - built in the 1960s. The food was great!! The coastline was incredible - the boat stopped at lots of ports to unload cargo items - and the side excursions allowed you to see the fjords and their scenery from the viewpoint of the land. It took 6 days to cruise from Kirkenes to Bergen. P.S. - I simply cannot imagine Zoe calmly sitting at the window watching passersby like this little fellow was happy to do....
@rosie00 Hi Lesley - the Hurtigruten cruise was great - apparently they have a big range of boats - some are quite huge - especially the new ones. Our little one was quite personal which was good. :)
@casablanca Hi Casablanca - it was really good - fabulous scenery! And I think the dogs are very used to being inside - freezing outside for much of the year.. :)
@golftragic Hi Marnie -we are having a wonderful time - so many lovely cities and gorgeous countryside. The girls keep us vastly amused too!! Cheers Rob
I have already posted two of them :)
