This is a very strange image and that is why I choose it. I had a very strange dream last night. I never dream, or I never remember them. This dream is as clear as a bell - it simply showed a child's school book - of the old fashioned kind - covered in brown paper and labelled on the front in pencil. The words read " I look, I took, I think, I wish".
I know the tenses are all wrong - but still I woke up with those words echoing in my mind.
They seemed to me to apply to my hobby and to my life. I take lots of photos, I look at lots of photos but do i really think about them and what they are telling me? Is a quick comment and a click on a Fav really doing them justice. Photos tell a story and I think this dream is my sub-conscious voice telling me to start thinking about these stories and what they say.
I know a wish is useless without a plan to make it come true, but at this stage my wish is to just become more aware of what is happening around our World and what the future may hold.
I'm sorry to be so odd early in the morning - but this has been a very odd experience.....
Cheers Rob
P.S. Strangely enough I think this experience also addresses the 52week theme - "Film Noir is a dark and moody type of photography well suited to storytelling. So tell us a story using Film Noir."
I think Film Noir is typically black/white with low light- very mysterious. (If you're familiar with Northy's photos, she works a lot in that genre). However, this shot does go well with your dream. It's a story to me of a sunrise in the Arctic. Brrrrr!
I totally agree re appreciating each of our photos and how much more I get out of looking, not to mention being critiqued, when I really let myself feel into the shot and comment from there. What an amazing gift of a dream the shot has a bit of a feeling of doom to me
I hope you have a peaceful and relaxing night tonight. But your dream seems to have led to some interesting introspection about what we love to do...take photos.
I find dreams that I remember - mostly I don't recall them at all - absolutely fascinating. This sounded like one of mine! Love that you took a photo to go with it and I love that it made you think!
I find this image beautiful and cold at the same time. I can get why you chose it as a consequence of a dream. In your IR and inverted colours pictures, the shapes are as expected but the colours are not as expected, so maybe our mind is unsettled just enough to go to places where it does not usually go ? Your processing certainly makes them open and rich enough to lead to many possible stories, and everyone of us will probably read a different one.
I really like this image. The bit of detail in the leaves and that dark sky and sun.
My imagination takes me to otherworld. I wish you a restful night Rob!
This really caught my eye … unique and creative. Enjoyed reading your story and I think it's wonderful that you remembered your dream and it led to this photo.
Rob. Are you in charge of the abstract challenge? The winner hasn’t been on since October 13. He may just be on vacation and the challenge is going on anyway.
@shutterbug49 HI Shutterbug - I'm hosting the Etsooi which finishes tomorrow. I had a quick look and Bobby posted the start of the new challenge on the 17th Oct and has a closing date of 16th Nov. He did say on his project that he was having a short break so I guess he will be back to do the judging. Maybe if we just try to remember to have a look near that date and see what happens.

@olivetreeann Hi Ann - thanks for your info about the b&w nature of the film noir genre. I had another look and now have more of an idea of what was required nut unfortunately have not had the time to try another one. And I do love Northy's images - they are always interesting. Thanks also for your interest in this image. Cheers Rob :)
@golftragic Hi Marnie - yep it's weird - both the dream and the photo! The dream was so odd - it seems amazing what your sub conscious can conjure up - funny about the lack of cohesion in the tenses too - but that's exactly what I read on the book. Must be a message in there somewhere... :)
@jgpittenger Hi Jane - thanks for your comments on this - it was weird dream and it definitely had a bit of a threatening feel to it - amazing what your sub conscious can come up with. :0
@taffy Thanks Taffy for your comments - I don't know what inspired the dream - but the image was from the new (for me anyway) IR camera that I've been playing with. It's fascinating - you never really know what you're going to catch- and then the negative images can also be quite out of the box. Thanks for your interest. :)
@casablanca Hi Casablanca - it was all pretty weird - I don't know quite what inspired it. Like you I never seem to remember them - but this one made itself known loud and clear! A bit spooky reallly! It must be some sort of sub conscious message...... :)
@moonbi Thanks for your feedback Jason - I liked your suggestion of a Japanese feel - and now that you have mentioned it I totally agree with you. Cheers Rob
@craftymeg Thanks Margaret - the dram was a bit spooky - but the new (for me anyway) IR camera is endlessly fascinating - I never really know what it's caught..... Cheers Rob
@etienne Thanks so much for your thoughtful ideas Etienne - it would be so interesting to know what makes your sub conscious produce some dreams which are quite unsettling. And there is no doubt that the IR photos are not what your brain expects and I do find them quite engaging. I like your idea that different people will find different ideas in them! It is always lovely to hear your comments and I appreciate them so much. Many thanks Rob :)
@lynnz Thanks so much for your comments Lynn - I'm finding the IR camera fascinating - it produces such unexpected results in different conditions. Cheers Rob
@joysabin Thanks so much Joy - I've since discovered that apparently it's not normal to have the colour in the film noir genre - luckily I didn't realize that at the time. No time to try again either! Cheers Rob
A very interesting shot, would make a good bookbinding for a thriller
- or maybe a film poster for a film noir. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I guess they touch all of us in a philosophicla way.
