About an hour and a half later she had finished laying her eggs and was striding across the paddock towards the dam.
We've pegged an upside down wire hanging basket over the nest in order to try to deter the foxes. Fingers crossed. :)

We did!!!! It was huge but I'm very pleased to be able to say it is no longer preying on the birds and turtles and lizards, and every other living thing, in our area!
Thanks for asking.
We still have some foxes - apparently they are nearly impossible to eradicate - once you get rid of one another one moves into its den. This covered nest still seems to be safe after a couple of weeks so we have high hopes for it.
Also - the vaccine! That may be a game changer for international travel in a year or two. May we perhaps still see you over here?
:)
@shutterbug49 Hi Shutterbug. They actually lay about 8-12 eggs. They're about 3/4 inch long and a bit more elongated in shape than a normal egg. They are quite soft when they're laid and as they develop the shell becomes more brittle. Unfortunately foxes love them and can small out the nests very easily. We hope the cage may save the nest. Cheers Rob
