White, silky sand which squeaks. by robz

White, silky sand which squeaks.

One person appreciating the blue water, three people checking out the squeaky sand!! The many coves of the Bay of Fires have beautiful fine sand - and magnificent boulders with orange lichens.
It squeaks? What fun! I love the orange lichens on the rocks. Is that why it is called Bay of Fires?

@casablanca We thought it was the colour that gave it the name - then we read on a plaque somewhere that one of the early explorers named it Bay of Fires after seeing all of the fires belonging to the aborigines living behind the beaches. :)

Ah, that makes sense. Plaques are useful things!

I really like the orange lichen so vibrant. That lovely sand must be so fine to squeak like that!

@fbailey Just beautiful FB - even without sunlight. Apparently the water is vivid blue when it's sunny. :)

@sarahlth Hi Sarah - the European tourists just loved the squeaky sound of the sand.

@dkbarnett I have to admit - begrudgingly - that the sand on these beaches is as good (maybe better!!???) than the sand on the Gold Coast. - it is incredibly fine and very white.:)
