Corpse Flower Blooms by rosiekerr

Corpse Flower Blooms

Behold "Octavia," the newly blooming Corpse Flower at the Botanical Garden. So named, because they emit a mad putrid stench while blooming (although I didn't smell anything). The bloom only lasts a few hours (6-24), hence the long line out the door to view it. This particular plant originates from Sumatra.

Here for originality, rather than beauty. :) My sister would call this a "you were there" shot.

SOOOO cool to see it in bloom!! I only got to see the after effect at Chicago's botanical garden, so it's really wonderful to see what it would have looked like a week or so earlier.

I've always wanted to see this flower but I've been afraid because of the smell! This is so unusual!

Beautiful shot. Great lighting. A fav. I have had the "honor" of seeing three corpse flower blossoms. Each one of those really stunk.

The dark/light in the folds is my favorite part.
