Here is Main Street, Alton, IL, underwater from the flooding in the Mississippi River (which was on the left and has now rudely overrun her banks). Yesterday's shot was just behind my left shoulder.
You can see the red line at the bottom of the grain elevators. That is the high water mark from the biggest ever flood, in 1993. This time, the water reached about 3 feet below the red line.
This location marks the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, both of which are very flooded. That is one reason why Alton (among other places in Iowa, etc.) takes it on the chin during high water seasons.

Blooming heck, do the locals all drive amphibious vehicles?? They must be something pretty special to deal with frequent flooding. Great life snapshot image Rosie, tells a real story.
Wow...this really shows the flooding! I was at the grocery store at the weekend and two women were complaining about the cost and quality of the sweetcorn, I mentioned the crazy weather we have had and the effect it has had on crops, they rolled their eyes at me!
