This really is a blackcap! I know that I've made mistakes with bird identification in the past but I have checked my bird book and this little fellow is a lovely example. I noticed him this afternoon when I walked around the big lake at Priory because I could hear him singing. I had to look really hard to find him and in fact walked around a bunch of trees several times before I located him. He was difficult to photograph as he kept flitting about so I took a load of pics but some of them have leaves blowing about in front of him as it's been extremely windy today with gusts of up to 50 mph. Fortunately, I was standing in a more sheltered spot when I took this as I find it hard to hold the camera steady with the wind blowing so hard. I have been to work today and stayed in the office but I don't think I was very welcome as people are frightened they might catch my bug and I don't blame them really. I don't feel brilliant because I'm still coughing as it seems to have gone down on my chest. I shall just have to see how things go but I'm not going to do any home visits until I feel and sound better.
By the way this is the first blackcap that I have seen for more than a second or two and only the second time I've seen one so I was especially pleased to get this
It is a lovely shot would love to get a male/female Blackcap in a good pose instead of on a feeder. Our Blackcaps we had in the winter left around the 11th of April.. Very well done on finding him and getting a shot.
I think this is the bird I have been trying to identify in my back yard. It's not a chickadee, larger, more like a titmouse, but he's grey with a black cap. Maybe the same?? I've been trying to get a good shot with no luck yet.
