Another one taken at Ashwell Show when the weather was a whole lot better then! I'm having a senior moment and just can't think what type of bird this is - silly me!
I saw this in "The shot that must have missed" discussion.
I can tell you that I think it is a fine image of this awesome bird. Great detail overall, and nice expression on the part of the bird. Nice 2/3 rds rotation for the portrait -what a sport!
Ha.
But, you know. I think the only thing that bothers me about this photo is the red stick/board going through the bird. Yes, I know it is part of the structure. But my eye reads it as "bird with red board sticking out of it".
And the truth is, I think I wouldn't notice it as much if the board wasn't so centrally located. Same goes for the bird being right in the middle of the frame.
IF the subject had been offset to the left, and the board therefore also offset to the left, it would draw my eye towards the subject more.
As it is, it draws my eye up towards the birds head, and then shoots past it. Then I am staring at the space above the bird.
Really neat background otherwise. I would consider cloning out the board. The red is just TOO bright to overlook. It scream, PAY ATTENTION TO ME INSTEAD OF THE COOL BIRD THAT HAS MORE NATURAL TONES!
Hope you don't mind the criticism. Follow me as I complete my project and you will have PLENTY of opportunity to do the same.
Thanks,
Adam
@adambralston I have had a lesson on Elements since I posted this because usually I don't edit my pics. I think on reflection, I would have tried to get rid of the board although I'm still not very good at editing and rarely go into Elements. I must try harder
