This is a pic I took the other day when the magpie had caused such a commotion. The little blackbird sat in the undergrowth below the conifer tree where his cosy nest had been. He lay panting in the undergrowth and his Mum had been trying to feed him but I suspected that he would probably not survive. When I came home from work in the afternoon, I couldn't find him so think he had probably not survived. I then saw his brother laying on the lawn (see pic in "Even More" album tomorrow). I'm sorry if this upsets people but it really upset me terribly to think that the parents had spent so much time feeding them only to have their lives taken by the magpie
On the other hand, the magpie probably had youngsters to feed, & if a red kite gets lucky it might take a magpie young, etc. As @grammyn says, the circle of life!
One hopes the blackbird learns & hides the next nest better!
