Autumn is a lovely time for colourful flowers such as this. We have both blue and pink ones in the garden and they really light up the rockery. The hebes are flowering for the third time this year! The rain must have had some good effects as the flowers this year have been really beautiful. Shame about the veg! I have dug all the potatoes up which were very poor and only good for making chips or roasting and they were supposed to be first earlies! Peas came to nothing and I just had a few french beans (about 3 meals I think) and I have just about picked the last of the courgettes which weren't up to their usual proliferation. Carrots didn't even come up and neither did beetroot. At least it said on the news that farmers were having a problem with their potatoes so it wasn't just me. Tomatoes however grew wonderfully and we are still eating them every day and I've just picked a load more from the greenhouse. Just need the sun to keep shining to continue ripening them!
These are colour-popping brilliant! My Mum used to grow these, but I haven't had any success with them. I've had similar frustrations to yours with my veg on the allotment.
Thanks Judith - they seem to grow well here because I started out with 2 plants bought from the Village Market and divided them and now have 4. Maybe I will have to divide them again and get some more
