Perhaps not the best shot, but with my other camera I wouldn't have got anything like this. This little chaffinch was coming in to land on the sunflower seed feeder so that she could have a tuck in. The birds are all very frantic looking for food for their young. I actually remembered at long last to change the month on my camera as I had inadvertently set it to May instead of June.
Out of curiosity, did you set the focus manually or use the AF (I assume the D7100 has really good AF)?
As for the blurred wings - next time you could try setting the ISO a little higher, 800 should still have tolerable noise while allowing much shorter exposure time.
Just my two cents, though, and I assume it was cloudy when you shot this? :)
@xtrmntr2k I used the continuous focus for this and yes I think you are right about the ISO. It was cloudy and I'm still getting used to things. I think I've always shied away from high ISO due to noise but I think this camera copes with it so much better that I must remember this! Thanks for your kind comments and for the tips you have given me
You captured the action perfectly here, Rosie. They were saying on the radio yesterday that chaffinches are making a big comeback, which is good to know
