Those who follow me will remember my picture #456 of the desk I am making to replace an older one in my study. This shot shows the dove-tail joints used for making drawers. Nowadays, one can make these joints with modern machinery which I don’t have so I have to use mallet and chisel to cut the wood for the joints by hand. I can assure you that the wood will rot and the joints would still hold the sides firm. All the drawers are almost done and I am very close to completing the whole job. But, as this is only a pastime for me, I only spend 2 or 3 hours daily (except for the week-end) on the job.
Thank you all so very much for looking and for your wonderful comments on my yesterday’s picture. Your comments are very encouraging.
Great work Dione even though my surname is Steele I come from a long line of woodworkers http://365project.org/steeler/365/2012-02-09 sadly I haven't chiselled a dove tail for years.its all clamp and screw these days
I know next to nothing about woodwork but I like how the joints look! I hope you show us the work again, and when it's finished. When people enjoy using their hands, what they make becomes special. 8)
My dad liked to work with wood too. Sometimes he just refinished pieces and other times he made smaller projects like a step stool for my mom. So I always appreciate good craftsmanship when I see it. It looks like your desk will be quite handsome when it's done.
I`ve seen that technique many times in the past My father in law was a carpenter Love those handcraft . You doing great
