The Church of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Sliema is being decked with the best dressings for the annual feast of the titular saint. The high altar has still to be decorated with silver statues of 6 appostles and silver vases with flowers made of filigree works and ganutell. The feast is next Sunday. It is the first feast of the year for the Sliema area. I won’t be here for the week-end so I took my camera to take pictures before the event.
Every parish in Malta and Gozo celebrates the feast of its titular saint which in Maltese is called il-Festa. Many parishioners give a lot of their time to collect funds for the religious aspect of the feast, church and outside decorations, band marches and most of all fireworks – we have many crazy youngsters in the villages who are hooked on fireworks and many of them go to the factories to help for free.
Thank you so very much for looking and for your wonderful comments on yesterday’s picture.
What an amazingly ornate sanctuary. It is so rich looking. I'm sure it will look quite beautiful when the statues of silver are there. Beautiful shot Dione!
Wow, this church is a work of art in itself, with those vintage chandeliers and that beautiful side alter, this has to be a very old and original church, wonderful photo!
