HOLDING ON

Two angels hold on to the chain of one of the big chandeliers of the church. These crystal chandeliers are brought out for the occasion of the annual parish feast. In another church, I think it was in Gozo, the chandeliers were even bigger than these. Patrons of parishes in the villages – not so much in Sliema – vie with others of neighbouring parishes on who has the best fireworks, street and church decorations. The village festa as it is today is a sort of manifestation by the locals and the religious aspect of the feast sometimes takes second place. Today these festi are in themselves tourist attractions and many tourists visit the place and some join the locals for beer drinking and in the fun.
Spain is the first nation to make it to the Euro 2012 final. Yesterday they beat Portugal on penalties. Portugal didn’t deserve to lose but such is the sport. Today is the second semi final between Germany and Italy.
Many thanks for looking and for your lovely comments on yesterday’s picture. You are so great.
Gorgeous chandelier! Great POV, Dione!

I can't imagine having "spare" chandeliers that you only use for special festivals! But I understand the specialness of the decor and tribute to the patron saint aspect of the holiday. Lovey shot! And thanks for the Euro updates. Baseball season is in full swing and that's all the sports channels are playing. I haven't seen them broadcast on the soccer channel either- it's very disappointing!
