15th July, 2012. ‘The Four without Arses’. This is the nickname given to this statue by the locals. The place is again Chambery and this fountain, Fontaine des Elephants, is the most famous landmark of the city. It was built in 1838 to honour General Boigne’s feats when he was in India. The sculptures of the head and forelimbs of the four lifesize elephants are so strikingly realistic. On top of the monument is a statue of Boigne with his spoils of war.
