July 16th. I was expecting this day’s excursion to be a great one and I wasn’t disappointed. We had a full day to Gran Paradiso Natural Park and later to Aosta.
The park is named after Gran Paradiso mountain, which is located in the park. The name is so appropriate because with its beauty you feel you are in Paradise. The park was initially intended to protect and safeguard the Alpine ibex, but now also protects many other species. It encompasses 703 square kilometres of alpine terrain. The park's mountains and valleys were sculpted by glaciers and streams. Altitudes in the park range from 800-4,061 metres.
I took hundred of shots throughout the day and it is so difficult to choose a sample. This shot is from inside the coach – one of many – and you can see the coach’s side mirror on the right. I don’t know the name of the place, there were many similar on the way. I only know it is somewhere on the way to Cogne. There is a castle in the far background which I tried to identify with the village but in vain. Perhaps Maria might know what place this is.
Thank you so much looking and for your lovely comments on yesterday’s picture.
bellissimo panorama!
