16th July – Aosta. Our last stop on the day’s excursion was Aosta, the principal city of Aosta Valley. A Roman colony was founded here to house 3,000 retired veterans. It later became the capital of the Alpes Graies ("Grey Alps") province of the Roman Empire. Its position gave it considerable military importance. Excavations have brought to light several Roman remains and excavation works are still ongoing.
This collage shows some of the Roman remains we have seen while walking around this beautiful little city.
Still have some trouble with the internet, will try to comment on your pictures as much as I can. Thank you for looking and for your comments on yesterday’s picture.
