Michaela’s school, St Dorothy’s, organised its annual school concert for 4th 5th and 6th year students last Wednesday. Michaela’s class gave their version of The Nutcracker (the music was recorded). Michaela had been assigned the leading role of Marie and we were left speechless with her brilliant performance. People who stopped us on the way out said that she was the best performer of the whole event. This collage groups some of the best pictures I have taken of her during the performance. She is the one dressed all in red or with the white gown over-all.
The Nutcracker is a two-act ballet with music scores by Tchaikovsky. It was given its première at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg on Sunday, 18 December 1892, on a double-bill with Tchaikovsky's opera, Iolanta. It is the story of a a little girl named Marie (Cohen) who falls asleep after a party at her home on Christmas Eve and dreams herself (or does she?) into a fantastic world where toys become larger than life. Her beloved Nutcracker (Culkin) comes to life and defends her from the Mouse King, then is turned into a Prince after Marie saves his life.
