Posted completely sooc except for a little hdr effect.
Another shot from my outing with JP and Ian last Sunday. One of the sights I wanted to see when we were exploring Wied il-Għasel was this chapel built in a natural cave in the rock face (I had seen a documentary about the place on one of the local tv networks). The chapel is dedicated to St Paul the Hermit.
According to information on the chapel door, there is a legend about this chapel. It says that a hermit lived here many, many years ago and the farmers of the area rose against him and forced him out of the place. He escaped and crossed to Gozo on his mantle which he spread over the sea. The farmers later repented and built this chapel to express their sorrow for their bad deed.
Thank you very much for looking and for your lovely comments and fav’s on yesterday’s picture.
I like how you've composed so that the steps take your eye to the chapel ; it's like an invitation to ascend and explore.
Fascinating legend, thank you.
Must have been quite difficult to build that up there. I really like the steps in the foreground especially and the coloured flowers growing amongst the rocks.
This chapel reminds me of the ones we saw in Greece- built under similar circumstances, that is places where hermits had lived which were venerated and chapels then built to commemorate them. It's a beautiful area.
Fascinating legend, thank you.
Great pov and love the rocky hillside.
