Michaela (my grand daughter) had her confirmation last Saturday. Here you can see the Archbishop Emeritus (retired) - who is acting in the name of the current archbishop – greeting Michaela before making the sign of the cross with holy oil on Michaela’s forehead. Michaela is accompanied by her godmother – her cousin, Rebecca. Unfortunately for me, I was on the wrong side of the official photographers and Michaela is mostly hidden by her godmother.
At a prior meeting with the parents of the children who were to receive confirmation, the parish priest made it plain that if he would not tolerate unofficial photographers during the ceremony. So you can understand how scared I was to take photos. Luckily the church was full and we had to go on the balcony at the back. From there I was able to take shots without being noticed.
Joke: A young monk arrives at the monastery. He is assigned to help the other monks copying the old canons and laws of the church, by hand.
He notices, however, that all of the monks are copying from copies, not from the original manuscript. So, the new monk goes to the Old Abbot to question this, pointing out that if someone made even a small error in the first copy, it would never be picked up! In fact, that error would be continued in all of the subsequent copies.
The Abbot says, "We have been copying from the copies for centuries, but you make a
good point, my son."
He goes down into the dark caves underneath the monastery where the original
manuscripts are held as archives, in a locked vault that hasn't been opened for hundreds of years. Hours go by and nobody sees the Old Abbot. So, the young monk gets worried and goes down to look for him. He sees him banging his head against the wall and wailing.
"WE MISSED THE R! WE MISSED THE R! WE MISSED THE BLOODY R!"
THE YOUNG MONK ASKS THE OLD ABBOT, "WHAT'S WRONG, FATHER?"
WITH A CHOKING VOICE, THE OLD ABBOT REPLIES, "THE WORD WAS ....
CELEB R ATE!"
Thank you very much for looking and for all the lovely comments on yesterday's picture.
I like seeing the expanse of this church. I'm glad you were risky. I attended a play this weekend and obeyed the no photo policy, but I was so tempted during the final bows!
A great view on and capture of this ceremony.
You love beets. The one the make sugar from ,as you love the sugar , and the one they feed the cows with, as you love the beef ( I suppose )
