Part of our tour of Lisbon was a visit to the Jerónimos Monastery a former monastery of the Order of Saint Jerome. And this is the queue we found waiting to visit. Nobody in our group, and that includes me, insisted that we should go in. And that was a big disappointment to me as I had read beautiful things about the place. But waiting behind all those people would have wasted the rest of the day for us all.
The complex was secularised on 28 December 1833 by state decree and its ownership transferred to the charitable institution, Real Casa Pia de Lisboa.
Many thanks for all your views, comments and favs. Always much appreciated.
What a wonderful building if only to view from the outside - - the queue would also deter me from wasting my day - better luck another day perhaps Dione !
A queue that size would be very off-putting. Looks like a wonderful building so can understand your disappointment. I have heard it is the same off over Europe for the popular tourist spots.
It's always a trade off. I did the same thing in Dublin, rather than go see the Book of Kells, afterward everyone who went told me line moved along quite briskly and they only waited about 20 minutes to get in. Still not sure I made the right choice, but at the time...
Fav. So many people everywhere now. We found that in Florence. Do you know 8 million visit the Taj Mahal every year, up to 70,000 every day?..they are considering capping it at 40,000!
