Christine and I opened our swimming season last Saturday - the sea was lovely and wasn't cold at all. We went back on Sunday and on Monday and every day since then. On Monday, after about an hour in the sea I felt something like the torch of a welding set hit my arm and soon realised it was a jellyfish sting. The burn subsided within half an hour but my arm started to swell. Two days later friends advised me that I should buy some cream or ointment to cure the swelling so off I went to the chemist who when he saw it he said:"OMG you should see a doctor and get a prescription for antibiotics. Ok. My son came filled the prescription for me and now I am on antibiotics for 7 days. But I haven't missed a single day of my swimming season. Now the swell has started to subside.

@tonygig I heard about that a couple of times, the first time I started laughing. But that will stop the sting but not the infection. I usually would let it heal by itself.
@maggiemae You can't avoid them, when you see them it's always too late. I think that that was the only jellyfish in the bay and it was just my luck on the day.
We think we can control nature but nature actacks back. Hope it is n`t hurt to much. So sorry for you.

So sorry to see this - it looks very painful. We are just back from North Qld - they actually have bottles of vinegar and warning signs at the entry to each path down to the sea,.......
Wow- that is definitely a run in with nature that most would avoid- but it is the sea and that will happen. So glad you got it treated with antibiotics before it got even worse. Also glad to know the swelling is coming down too.
