Naples – Day 3.
The only way is up, baby
For you and me now .....
From Herculaneum a coach drive to the base of the Vesuvius took around 30 to 40 minutes. The remaining part up to the crater was on foot . I had read that it would take us 30 minutes to get to the top but it took us longer as we are not youngsters any more. In this shot you can see Christine and Mary Grace coming up at a slower pace than us and I was beginning to worry that we would not make it in time as our time was limited.
Thank you so much for your views, comments and fav's.
I loved walking up Vesuvius and seeing the steam coming out of the vent! From the view at the top of the plain, you realise how very unlucky Pompeii was to get that pyroclastic flow heading their way. It could have gone anywhere.
I don’t always find coming down any easier. Interesting looking walk. Always a bit nervous around volcanoes. we were sailing past Stromboli when it went up and on Antigua when Montserrat let rip.
Quite a climb but a lovely view….very nice if you have plenty of time to enjoy it. Vesuvius is very famous if course but I would make sure I could run down faster than I toiled up just in case!
