Tattie Holidays! by sarah19

Tattie Holidays!

The October holidays in rural Scotland were always known as 'The Tattie Holidays'.......tattie being potato!! And before the hi-tech machinery squads of young people would go to the fields and earn quite a lot of money (relatively speaking!!!) for pretty hard work and sore backs!!!
It's a long time since I did that.......but this holiday is definitely my Tattie Holiday as I've spent lots of time in Dad's garden, digging up potatoes and tidying up flower beds and shrubs etc etc.
Allan took this photo of me yesterday morning before he went home.....early light and the beech tree in the background!
I must say I've really enjoyed all the fresh air and being fairly fit and very healthy it has done me lots of good.
Three good things
1. Courgette, pea and mint soup......everyone enjoyed it........I wasn't sure if they would but we'd loved it when we went out for lunch last week and it worked out quite well when I made it today.
2. The garden bins are filling up with all the pruning and digging that's going on!
3. Took Mum and Dad out for a drive to a favourite beach where we could see across the Moray Firth and hear the sound of the sea. Quite a tonic and definitely better than 'sitting around looking at each other' as our youngsters would say!!!
Now......can I catch up with some of your photos. I hope so! Thanks for looking at mine!
It's always nice brining back the good old days (save the back)

When I was a child my autumn holidays were just like yours. Helping on the fields with the potato harvest, together with my sister and brother.

@digitalrn @gijsje Thank you for your lovely comments! Rick I'm glad to say my Pilates class has taught me how to care for my back!
Bep, I think there must be lots of shared experiences on east and west of the North Sea! You must come and visit!

We spent several holidays in the UK, Wales and Ireland. During one of these holidays we took a short trip in the South of Scotland; seeing more is on our bucket list!

What a blessing you are to your folks! And that soup sounds good. I still hope to get to Scotland someday. Every time I read about it here, I want to go even more!
