I had to visit a property about a mile from the office yesterday and so had a walk across the urban landscape of the city centre. The ground floor facades across the “central business district” of Leicester are pretty much indistinguishable from any other city, with the usual range of chain store shop fronts, and you have to look up to see the original architecture, which in the case of Leicester is mostly Victorian. Alternatively a peek behind the shops and offices that open onto the street may reveal buildings like this one, with no commercial need to entice customers inside, and which have retained their original appearance. This is Clarence House, built in the late 1800s, originally a school, and now the local offices and function rooms for Age UK.
