The two local swans have become a bit of recent theme, but when I saw them both serenely floating on still floodwater and couldn’t resist another photo. Having migrated from a frozen pond to the adjacent river about three weeks ago, and eventually appearing about half a mile upstream, the swans seem to be gradually making their way back to the pond – just two long meandering field boundaries to go. Like the wildlife pond, this pool is just a few meters from the river – hopefully they haven’t got confused, because I really hope that this waterlogged area of crops will be dry by the summer! I had to sneak across the young crops to get several photo from the sunny side, keeping the dogs close. The male got a bit agitated if we approached the water’s edge, disturbing the surface of the water, and so, with only an 18-55 lens, the rather distant shot has required cropping. Having taken all these precautions, we returned to footpath, where I stood behind a hedge to view the results. I heard a splash, and looked over the hedge to see our youngest dog Tia heading into the water to greet the swans. To my relief she did a prompt U-turn when I called her - maybe she realised what she had taken on.
