Anyone for breakfast? by shepherdman

Anyone for breakfast?

A parasol mushroom, apparently. I don’t know what it would be like with egg and bacon though. Maybe I will stick with the supermarket mushrooms, even though I am sure that freshly picked are tastier if you know what you are picking. These are growing on the path that leads down to the village, which in autumn is damp in places, dry in the odd patch, and distinctly wet elsewhere, which leads to quite choice of fungi to photograph, often nibbled by mice or other wildlife preparing for winter. As I was on my knees photographing this pair at the base of a hedge, @shepherdmanswife was leaning over a low fence capturing a different variety under trees. Maybe we should do our homework and make the most of nature’s bounty with our weekend breakfast. Then again, why risk spending the weekend in the bathroom…..
No don't do it. Just not worth the risk. I learnt today that spindle berries are very toxic, the dangers surrounding us hey? Love this shot of these parasol mushrooms, they seem to be very common this year.

Beautiful shot. We used to live in France, where everyone gathers mushrooms and people are taught that most are safe, but a few are poisonous. If you're not sure you can bring them into the local pharmacy who will give advice! We in the UK are taught the opposite, so we do miss out on some fine wild mushrooms. But, I'm like you, if I'm not sure, I wouldn't try it! I do pick wild chanterelles and eat them though.

You have to be "oh so careful" and "oh so sure" about wild fungi although I too, have been told that Parasol mushrooms are edible and tasty.

Love the texture of these. For me it's quite easy, I'm allergic to mushrooms so I leave everything alone. I have a friend who is fairly clued up about which are edible in our area and we sometimes go out mushroom hunting together. She for ones to eat and me for ones to photograph!
