With the rain from Hurricane Sandy falling all day there wasn't much opportunity to photograph much outdoors. So I thought I'd show the world a handmade Amish rocking chair. The back, seat, arms and rockers are made with oak. The dark brown wood is Hickory branches. The Hickory is placed in water making it pliable to twist and shape around forms and allowed to dry. Then everything is sanded and covered with clear polyurethane stain.

Thank you all for posting comments! I should have included in the description there was no need to comment! We were glued to the Weather Channel, like most people who were in Sandy's predicted path. Our hearts and prayers go out to those who live in the areas that felt the brunt of Sandy's fury!
@danette - Thank you Danette!! We weathered the storm very well thank you! I credit the prayers of your Bible study and many others. We need to keep those less fortunate in our prayers as they try to recover from the high winds and water.
That is a gorgeous, handmade rocker and a lovely capture of it. They have been making handmade rockers in my town for the last 120 years - called Brumby rockers. Love rockers!
