Happy Election Day America!! Well it finally got here. This has been the longest year, politically wise, I think I have ever endured. I got the idea for the signs yesterday, but there doesn't seem to be as many political signs as there have been other years. I visited four polling places today thinking there would be more signs, but there weren't. I guess most of the money went to TV ads. One thing that struck me was that 3 of the 4 polling places I visited were churches. Surprising since there is such a big thing about "separation between church and state." I hope everyone fulfilled their civic duty and voted.
That is very interesting about polling stations! Maybe because they are made to handle people, aren't used much during the week so less disturbance of routine, and parking available.
Thank you all very much for taking the time to visit and comment!! It was a busy day and it is almost bed time. So please pardon my group post. As in any election some are thrilled with the results and some are disappointed. But it is time to move on and hope that the American people were right in their decision. I saw today and interesting post on Facebook by a Frenchman named Alexis de Tocqueville who lived in the 1800's and studied the American form of democracy. He wrote some very interesting words on the topic:
“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse(generous gifts) from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.” I think our politicians would benefit greatly if they took the time to study his writings.
@dmdfday - Yes it is Diane. And every indication is that we are about to have a drop in the economy worse then the last one. With all the spending going on since our present president took office we are going to end up like Greece.
@danette - I use to be a John Kennedy Democrat. I can still hear those famous words from his inauguration speech. "My fellows Americans, ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country."
