I was driving home when I spotted it sitting in this dead tree. I backed my car into a framer's lane and surprisingly he sat there while I changed lens and three cars went by.
Just the perfect spot. You were lucky he was still there. I see so many birds on the way home from my daughters but never turn back.Maybe I will have to try to.
@tesssa - Thank you so much Tess! I know when I have seen them eating along the road they take off, but that could be for self protection. I was kind of hoping it would take off before I left so I could try and capture him in flight. But he just sat there. I really didn't have to turn around the car. When I rounded a bend in the road I spotted him and I slowed down (very rural road) expecting him to fly. When I saw that he wasn't I stopped and backed up about 50 feet into a lane to a barn. As I changed lenses three cars went by and I thought for sure it would take off before I even got out of the car. That is usually how my luck runs. But not this time. :)
Thank you for the wonderful comments and fav! I really needed something like this. I was feeling in a slump and was ready to take a break. The last thing I had on my mind was finding something to photograph and there it was. . . waiting for me. I am still surprised how it sat there for so long!
