I have seen these around, but never tried to find out what they are. I saw these on the edge of a field near a tree line. The trees' shade offered a nice background.
Yes, looks like Canada thistle, I should know, I have enough of them around here. The flowers look pretty but the rest of the plant is a prickly pain and they spread!
@gardencat - Thank you for your comments and verification Joanne! There is a bumper crop this year. I have noticed these before but never took a picture of one. I have a book of wildflowers but didn't see this in it. So I Googled wildflowers and found a Canada Thistle. I wasn't 100 percent certain though.
