Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens I

This is part 1 of a 12 part series.
Yesterday my wife and I took a trip to Akron, Ohio to tour the former home of the Franklin Augustus Seiberling family. Over the course of the next few days my pictures will consist of photos I took on the tour. There was one drawback though. No photography is allowed inside the home. Only outside on the grounds.
While on the tour we both learned many things about the history and influence of the Seiberling family. While the name Seiberling might not be familiar to some of you, the name Goodyear probably is. In 1898 F.A. Seiberling and his brother Charles Willard, co-founded the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Seiberling named the company after Charles Goodyear the discoverer of the vulcanizing process. Sadly, Charles Goodyear couldn't sell the idea of vulcanization and died penniless. Four decades later The Seiberlings started the Goodyear Company.
Outstanding shot and clarity Skip, also love the information.

Great composition with the visual progression from the garden, along the drive, to the home framed by the trees.

@soboy5 - Thank you Danny! I had thought about seeking out a position to get the whole building in, but the tour took so long we left. Maybe on my next visit.

What an amazing looking house and the trees are pretty impressive too and make a great frame for the shot. Very interesting to learn a little of the history too.

Very well composed to get so much in with such beauty and detail. Reminds me a little of the Andrew Mellon home in Pittsburgh from around that same era (and style of living) that was donated to Chatham University (Chatham College when I went there and lived in that home my senior year). Beautiful shot.

@paulaw - Thank you so much Paula!

@milaniet - Thank you Milanie for your kind comment! I have never seen the Mellon home, but I know that they too have left a legacy to the people in the Pittsburgh area.

My daughter and I are definitely going to visit this house! We love old houses and the history of the families. It should only take us about 9 hours to get to Akron. If you are looking for another great old home to visit I recommend the Glensheen Mansion in Duluth MN. Thanks for the wonderful pictures and the info -

@vickisfotos - Thank you so much Vicki! I am glad you like it!

@espyetta - It is one of the closest homes that resembles a castle in America. I thought initially that I would point out the the rounded room and some other things, but maybe another time if and when we revisit it. The round room is the solarium and the glass of the windows are double diamond leaded glass.

@tskipper - That you Tami for your kind comment and fav!

@juletee - Thank you Jule! it is kind of funny that when I was in school I didn't care much about history, but now I can't get enough of it. I hope you can make it sometime to see the house. Check it out online first because it isn't open all year round and it is closed on most Mondays. My wife and I visited a home in New Hampshire on our honeymoon that is called, "Castle in The Clouds" that I wouldn't mind revisiting. Thank you for the info on the Glensheen Mansion!
