Every other Sunday the Amish in our area have church. The other Sundays they visit their families. They hold church in the homes of the families in their immediate community. This week our neighbors were the hosting family. The women spend days cleaning the home from top to bottom. Floors, ceilings, and walls are all scrubbed. Other women come in on Saturday and help the hostess bake pies. Our neighbor told my wife they made 24 full-sized pies and 96 half-moon pies. We were the fortunate recipients of a pie and 4 half-moon pies.
The reason this woman has such dark eyes is that a lot of the Amish who wear glasses get photochromic lenses.
I always find it interesting how religious beliefs, based on rules from long ago, are adapted to more modern times. At first glance, the idea of photochromic glasses, based on modern technology, being widely used by plain women seems odd but I guess you would need to understand the underlying philosophy of the restrictions to make sense of it.
Love the trees..it seems a moment from another time 😊
