The area was treated to some old-time baseball. Back to the days when they played for the love of the game. Way back before the players made ridiculous amounts of money to play a game. Back when the players loved their fans, willingly signed autographs, and even on occasion, lived on the same street as their fans. This was back before players wore gloves and caught the ball bare-handed. Back then if a fielder caught a hit ball after the first bounce, the batter was out. Pitchers pitched underhand like today's slow-pitch softball pitchers. Strikes were called by an umpire. Foul balls weren't counted as a strike. and balls weren't called. Strikes were called when the batter completely missed the ball. Three strikes were still out, but with no balls being called and fouls weren't strikes, batters could stand in the batter's box for a long time until they got the pitch they wanted. [BoB]
