These are wood carvings (in the middle of a roundabout) that honor Döderhultarn, a Swedish sculptor. He was a resident of the area and is famous for his wood carvings.
Great composition with the car adding height to the figures, love the light from the left lifting the detail in the carvings, Great image of an unusual subject Ron;)
What a great distraction at a roundabout! I love them, but our council here would not approve - we have trouble getting anything over 30cms high! (hat includes plants!)
An interesting idea, putting them on a roundabout. A bit hard to get a good look at them while driving! They look lovely, although her bouquet might be tad heavy.
I can see why his work was well-loved and famous! We're in Nova Scotia in the summers and folk art there is HUGELY popular...they would just eat this up! What a great image to photograph!
You've placed the camera perfectly to capture the scene. I used to travel to Sweden a lot for business, and it certainly has some interesting corners.
Hope you're having a good time.
@pcoulson@dianeburns@grahambudd Thanks guys - one of the advantages to being at a high latitude is the abundant soft evening sunlight. Of course it needs to be sunny....and clear....and summer. That's sometimes a rare combination here.
@gilbertwood@888rachel I never thought about the distraction factor. Fortunately traffic seems to be minimal in this small town - or maybe the regular citizens just don't care!
@terryliv Good point! I think it is a very civil and honest place. Swedes seem to be much more honorable that Yanks and Aussies. The ones that I know, anyway. ;-)
