Sticky Wicket by stray_shooter

Sticky Wicket

A little different perspective relative to @Weezilou (Louise's) capture of St Francis in the Los Rios District. Her view is here: http://365project.org/Weezilou/365/2014-06-01 The spiders appear to have free run of the place.
Oh I wish I'd been half as clever as you for this shot! I went at it much too literally, but you captured the setting and a great deal more interest in the entire photo than I did. This is quite wonderful! Besides being a really nice photo, I'm faving it to remind myself to pay better attention next time!

Very creative idea to have the detail in the foreground and St Francis lurking at the back, love the use of the Bokeh effect in the background, great shot Ron;)

This is an awesome shot, great POV and quite a cob web you found there. We got acquainted with Louise and Ken through our daughter -- a former 365er -- and spent a lovely day or two with them in Lunenburg in 2010. Guess Louise and Ken had a lovely time with you this week for Ken's birthday. (We live in Escondido now, were 33 year residents of San Diego till 11 years ago.)

The light on the web is perfect! It really sets the loopy pattern off nicely. Creative composition for this pic too, including St. Francis in the background with his own pet spider on him.

Really interesting pov, love the colour and detail and the subtlety of the statue out of focus, great shot, fav!

I'm here looking for the trunk picture. ... ...

And what it is about the light on the stamen of my lily picture that intrigues you??

Cool shot, love the webs and again, great detail! There's a very popular pub/restaurant in Victoria, BC called the Sticky Wicket!

@Weezilou Well that's quite the complement! I seem to have gone from trying to photoshop spider webs out to seeking them out. I have to credit the lens to a great degree on this. That's my pricey f2.8 zoom making me look good there.

@pcoulson Thank you Peter! Every once in a while (rarely of course) some creative force descends on me and takes over. It has since retreated and I am back to my normal bumbling self.

@simta Спасибо Татьяна. Удачный выстрел. Каждый раз в то время это произойдет.

@aglennc Thanks for the comments and thanks for the follow Anita! Maybe we can all get together soon - Escondido's not so far away at all! I look forward to seeing and enjoying your photos.

@lyndemc Thanks, Denise. Fortunately for all of us on 365 the homeowner refuses to do yard maintenance. Makes for great photo opportunities!

As for the lighting on your lily stamen (that just sounds inappropriate) the light looks like it's coming from a different angle on each one, and there's this vivid light/dark contrast on each one. Set against the bright yellow, I dunno, it just looked really interesting to me. Then again, so does Don King's hair.

@ourrube Thanks Ruby. Yeah, I was actually trying for that effect. I'm shocked that it worked out. I didn't even bracket the f-stop and I completely forgot the DoF preview. Still managed to get lucky! Thanks for the comment.

@stray_shooter @aglennc Glad to see you two met up! Anita won't mind me telling you that I was following her daughter a few years ago, and Linda wrote to ask if I might meet up with her folks when they were in Lunenburg! Ta da They came to town with they darling pup and we had a wonderful time together! I even eventually met Linda with another group up in Long Beach! I've yet to have a bad run-in...and even you passed my stringent test ;)

@marmaladeskyes Thanks, Tracy. I recall the term "sticky wicket" being used quite a bit from my time spent in England. It actually originates from the game of cricket (which I truly ended up enjoying). I just seemed to be a descriptive way to highlight the cobweb. I'm guessing the facility in BC has something of an English flavor to it?

@stray_shooter Louise and I both commented just several days ago that when they return to CA. from Lunenburg, we're going to get together for a shoot. She mentioned you might join us... Looking forward to it.
