No, they aren't mine. I was browsing through an antiques shop near the mission where I shot yesterday's photo and came across this pile o' monkeys (and yes, it was as fun as they say).
For those who may not be familiar with the sock monkeys, they became very popular during the Great Depression when money was scarce. During this time the Nelson Knitting company had a distinctive red-heeled sock that was highly in demand as a durable work sock. Creative mothers took to using the socks to create stuffed monkeys using the red heel to represent the monkey's mouth. These days many of them seem to be factory made, but it appears that some of those in the photo are the real deal.
What I learned in taking this photo: Sock monkeys have more variety than I realized, but they are not as rare and as valuable as I thought.
