The Crown Valley Crossing by stray_shooter

The Crown Valley Crossing

For this week's Get-Pushed project I was challenged by Laura, @la_photographic, to produce an image featuring light trails. An eight-lane bridge near my home served as the setting for traffic coming and going into and out of my little hamlet.

What I learned in taking this photo: A remote shutter release is absolutely essential for long exposures. Also, the shutter doesn't have to stay open for great lengths of time to get a reasonable image of car lights.
@la_photographic OK, Laura, my attempt at meeting your challenge. Not the greatest, and I appreciate the opportunity to improve an obvious weakness. Maybe a better shot later this week.

Ooo I like it. Good motion and line abstract

makes for a nice abstract. was it windy where you took this from?

What a good area to be able to photograph. It's tricky to do, I know -- tripod and a good guess on the exposure length. A good abstract even if it wasn't what you had planned.

A fully chaotic sense of life in So Cal! Love the abstract, and strikes me that it's the antithesis of Annie's photo I just looked at: https://365project.org/annied/365/2017-01-24 @annied

Ron it's awesome shot for you challenge!!! Good luck!!!

This had made a great abstract Ron. Light trails is on my bucket list to do. Unfortunately we don't have eight lane roads here in the UK. Worth having another go at this I think as its a good subject.

Wonderful lighting patterns and timing another challenge well accomplished Ron, I would also a rock solid tripod and possible taking the shot at dusk to get more surrounding detail :)

Well done

@stray_shooter Looks great.

Ron I like to put the camera on my dashboard and go around corners at night. You get Nike swooshes!

@tigerdreamer Thanks Karen. It was not my intention to produce an abstract, but after seeing the results I decided that's all it really could be.

@summerfield Thanks Vikki. It was not particularly windy, but my theory as to the squiggly lines is the passing cars created enough wind to yield the same end result. That's what I get for grabbing the cheap tripod.

@taffy Thanks Taffy - you called it, an entirely unplanned abstract. Hopefully a better result next time.

@Weezilou Boy, you are right about the contrast between the two atmospheres in the two photos! Thanks Louise.

@pcoulson Thanks for the feedback Peter. Yeah, I screwed up on the choice of tripods. The good solid one was buried under the golf clubs in the trunk, so I opted for the cheap, light one. Either we had a small earthquake or the passing cars (on either side of me - I was on a mid-highway island - yikes!) created enough of a wash to shake the camera, resulting in the wiggles. Oddly enough I cropped this shot due to what I determined to be undesired distractions from the surrounding area. Go figure! I'll be better next time.

@jorlam @olenadole @pamknowler @bkbinthecity @kurtl525 @joannakate @la_photographic You are all very kind, but let's face it, it's a pretty crappy photo. But that's part of 365 and the get-pushed challenge! I will learn from this and my next light trails photo will be an improvement.

@pickerandagrinner Thanks Lou, that's an excellent tip. Must try that some time!

@stray_shooter Well in that case you did very well Ron not only with the shot but also not being arrested, highways and mid highway island are a no no for pedestrians over here:)
