Back to Laguna Beach tonight with the class to shoot the surf and the sunset. There were many opportunities to catch seagulls, sandpipers and pelicans swooping through the shots, all of which I failed to capture when intended. There were three pelicans flying in formation just before this that I failed to get in time and then as I was lining up trying to catch the surf when a high wave had rolled in, boom, here comes this guy on a solo mission. Ya take what ya can get.
What I learned in taking this photo: Sometimes the shot you want selects you, rather than the other way around.
WOW! I'm in the wrong place most evening's, home in the neighborhood! This is gorgeous, and I know what you mean about being grateful for what you get...and most especially when it's exceptional!
Serendipity rules here, how fortuitous..
superb colours, love how they light the water too.. i like that there's movement in the water.. it gives a sense of depth..
Beautiful shot and I love the coloured layers. How true is the comment that the shot selects you. How lucky that the pelican was heading home for the evening.
Absolutely stunning capture, and those colors are glorious. Yep, sometimes photobombers make the shot! The pelican just wanted to be in your shot too........ and he managed and timed it just right.
@dianen Thank you kindly Diane. I'm always fascinated by the difference between what the camera sees vs. what the human eye sees. I knew that the sky would be interesting, and I knew there was a good reflection in the water, but I didn't have any indication that that reflection had so much color in it. Gotta love sunsets!
@terryliv The guy who catches amazing closeups of tiny creatures is complaining about lost opportunities?!? I may have to report you to the authorities. ;-)
@lyndemc Ah, now don't be envious Denise. I'm envious of people who don't have to live in this whacked out, overcrowded, expensive place! I was talking with a friend the other day, and we were lamenting the difficulties of trying to put up with what we refer to as the "beauty tax." I guess the grass is always greener on that other hill. Thanks for you kind words.
@pcoulson Thank you Peter. And yes, I did command the pelican to fly into position, for which I paid him well. Much more cooperative than the three before him that were in perfect formation. Damn pelicans.
@taffy Wow, absolutely perfect is a real compliment! I guess, now that you mention it, his profile and wing position did work out pretty well. That'll likely never happen again! Thank you very much Taffy. :-)
@tunia Thanks Tunia, and I must admit that I was incredibly lucky that the profile of the pelican just happened to line up like this. And I'm glad it was a pelican, rather than drone or a swarm of mosquitos!
@summerfield Thanks muchly Vikki. Funny how some people point out the pelican, some are more drawn to the colors. I'm happy either way. I do appreciate your visit and comments!
