In light of the interest generated in my photo of the Durango Silverton train the other day I thought I'd post the train's destination point after it departs Durango. Silverton, a former mining town, sits high in the Rocky Mountains at 9318 feet (2840 meters) and is purely a tourist attraction now. You can see the train in the foreground where it's in the process of turning around in preparation for the trip back down to Durango.
Like the image Ron. I was thinking here have I heard of Durango. Just remembered it’s Bob Dylan ‘Romance in Durango’ from one one of my all time top 10 Albums ‘Desire’ I know what I’ll be listening to this morning. Just realised that song is about Durango in Mexico though.
@shannejw They seem to like very colourful buildings in Silverton for reasons unknown. Many photos are taken of the downtown area where the buildings are all kinds of bright colours. I wish more towns in the U.S. would do that. Thanks for stopping by!
@pcoulson More like a "townscape" if that's even a word, Peter. Pretty small place but they do seem to love using colour to brighten up the whole town. Neat place. Thanks for your feedback!
@imnorman Thanks Ian. Hope you enjoyed the music! Yes, there is a Durango in both Colorado and Mexico. Oddly enough, I understand it is actually a French word, meaning "strong." Sure doesn't sound French!
@stray_shooter It’s been a long time. We sure hope to go there this May when we go to Santa Fe. I always thought Colorado cornered the mountain beauty market until I saw Montana’s Glacier NP. 😊
