four young lads chatted me up on my way to the waterfront at lunchtime. one of them was interested in photography but doesn't have time to do it and the other had an ex-girlfriend who was into modeling so she hooked up with a photog-type guy so she could get herself free photographs for her portfolio. he was jolly about it saying something like high maintenance and that he preferred a quiet life and enjoy life in general. i lost them at some point because i kept on stopping to take photos.
when i was heading back to the office, i passed by the tall ship "kajama" and they were in it doing some painting and sanding of the wooden rails and the bowsprit. i took this shot from a distance and i didn't think he saw me, but when i passed by him he asked if he could have a copy. so i gave him my card for him to e-mail me so i can e-mail it to him.
they were all very nice to talk to and very well-mannered kids. i like that.
@olivetreeann - not i, the camera. :-) thank you, ann.
@sianipops - and that's probably why he won't lift his head. hehe! thank you, nia.
@maggiemae - i have printed a few cards with my e-mail address and a thank-you note at the back. some people are wary of giving out their phone number or e-mail address to strangers. so if i give them my contact info, it's up to them to contact me if they want their photos. some would contact me right away, one or two never, and others would contact me a few weeks or months after. i tell people i'm not a professional but a student of photography. and i think i'm a reasonably nice person, well, i could be when i want to. hehe!
Funny, he is so like my fisherman son in age that I can't even bear to think eye candy here. Lol. Nice to hear they were polite. I still meet so many wonderful young people.
@pandorasecho - what i find, dixie, is that the boys are mostly more polite than the girls. but it makes me feel good whenever i meet well mannered young people. thank you, dixie.
Great candid capture. Isn't it wonderful that there are some well mannered youngsters out there! I think your cards are a great idea and something to think about doing.
@salza - the idea came to me in december when the manager of the greek paper who published my photos in their toronto and new york papers. when he was asking for my phone number, i remembered that i had a few 'business cards' made up and those came in handy. sometimes i would write someone's name and number and i'd lose it; so i suppose it is better for me to give my card. thank you, sally. and yes, i am always glad whenever i meet young people who are polite and well mannered. it worked for us when we were young, it should work for them, too.
@sturnus - same here. it's not like i was going to go after them. hahaha! thank you, carol.
@traceyhn - good looking and well mannered, too bad i don't have a daughter i can match them with. thank you, tracey.
My friend you are so friendly with the young laddies I'd say. I think ye go out to the waterfront not to photograph but use it to talk to the young laddies.
