partner excitedly called me at the office on monday to tell me that i should go to the corner of church and queen street as there is an installation of literally hundreds (probably even a thousand) chairs piled up. so at lunchtime i went and there it was! i was at first hesitant to go inside as the young lad, who had the turn to explain to people what this signified, told me not to touch anything or the chairs would collapse as nothing was holding them together but themselves. what a piece of crock, there's a wiry cone-shaped thingamajig where the chairs were wired. hahaha!
this would have been my monday post, but as we all know it had been pre-empted by the beautiful rainbow!

this is installation #37 during the weekend's "nuit blanche" event. this is called "Garden Tower in Toronto, 2013" by the japanese artist named tadashi kawamata from hokkaido, japan.
"as if each person who sat on these chairs left a piece of himself, the work evokes the beautiful and utopian aspects of the myth of the Babel Tower: a humanity speaking of one voice and engaged, with solidarity, in the building of a better future."
if you are from toronto or in toronto, this installation is on view until october 14 outside the grounds of the metropolitan united church on the corner of queen street east and church street.
@summerfield yes I was..Becka and I were on our bikes zipping around...but then we came across the stabbing at Richmond and York and well that kind of put a damper on the night..Unfortunately we watched them working on that kid and just couldn't save him..so sad
@roth - heck, that was really unfortunate. i planned on going but i remembered going last year and i wasn't impressed so i thought i wouldn't be missing anything nice. plus as you said, this looked a lot better during the day and you get to appreciate it more with less people milling around it. thank you, sue.
