partner had an urgent delivery called in by his boss this morning so that sort of ruined our planned lunch date. we were on a road near the international airport and after his delivery we stopped at the side of the road near the landing strips. whoa! photogs galore with their muscled equipment and lenses trying to take the underbellies of landing jets. and i thought that was for amateurs only. or maybe they're amateurs, too, only with big boys' gears!
anyhoo, we parked at a bus stop (where no bus ever stopped) and i had a field day taking photos of the photographers. one even had a stepladder! then this big truck parked behind us and the driver got out went to the other side of the truck and took this little girl out. i got to chatting with him and he said he promised her they'd watch big planes this weekend so that's what they were doing. the little girl was very excited, she's also very cute.
this is sooc but cropped. i know the truck is quite distracting but it can't be helped as i did a heavy crop already.
i should've asked if i could take a picture of them (their backs to me, of course) with the girl's hands outstretched as if reaching for the plane. fine! i kicked my ass already so....there goes another missed opportunity for me. however, i am happy with this shot; you may not really see the excitement of the little girl, but i did so that makes it special for me.
Hey there my friend you were just around the corner from me, just 15 - 20 minutes away. The planes do come down very close and there are always cars parked watching the plane landing and taking off, it is so fascinating. Love the beautiful blue sky background.
@cathrinemitch - was i really? are you so lucky to have to catch this sight at any time! yes, the sky was so beautiful again today. i think our payback comes tomorrow when there will be the intermittent showers. thank you, cathy.
Oh this is fab and brings back so many memories. Way before all the security problems, you could go onto the roof at one of our local airports just for the hell of it! We used to take the boys when they were little, although it was me who used to squeal with excitement. So sad we can no longer do this.
Great capture! We used to do the same thing when my brother and I were little - there used to be a whole spectators' lounge at the airport, though they took it out in a redevelopment. I love how you captured the plane flying over in your pic.
